Last stop, Comedy Club

I’ve always been a fan of standup comedy, human anxiety balls pouring their minds and hearts out on stage, a very vulnerable spot, to make us laugh.

I wanted to use this setting to think of a game where you have to juggle between the adrenaline rush of hitting the right spot with your jokes and delivery, and the anxiety of falling flat while telling a very personal anecdote.

The game is split between two modes: On stage mode / Daily life mode.

During the “Daily life mode” the player goes about their normal life and their day job as a school teacher, taking notes of what could be funny material.

During the “Stage mode” the player finds themselves in different clubs, with different audiences and sensibilities. The player also carries the memory of past successes and failures which affects their stress level. You can have a drink to loosen up, but be careful not to overdo it and lose sense of how the audience reacts. But also remember to breath, listen to the public’s reaction, and try to find the right pace and the type of jokes your audience seems to be the most reactive to.

  • A public reaction bar on the left
  • Top right : Anxiety bar
  • Middle right: Focus Bar
  • Bottom right: Drunkness bar

This is still a work in progress concept.
